They also known as genetically modified organisms, or GMO. A method called recombinant DNA technology is used to transfer genetic information from one organism to another, producing plants, animals, or even vaccines. The organisms that are created from this process are referred to as genetically modified organisms. Scientists pose genetically modified foods as a solution for food issues around the world like feeding the growing global population. There is no doubt that GMO have the potential for providing solutions to many of the agricultural issues faced worldwide today like addressing famine and malnutrition in developing nations by producing higher yielding crops with extra nutritional value, or saving farmers money and time by creating pest-resistant, herbicide-tolerant, heartier plants. However, whenever scientific manipulation of nature occurs, it can result to unknown and unintended consequences. Most of the Americans probably think that they haven’t ever eaten a genetically modified (GM) food. But think again. GM food is everywhere in our food we buy.
